We used these envelopes for the back of our chairs in our dining room. I started a family tradition for Valentines where we put little treats, toys, and valentines in the envelope throughout the week. Then we go through the envelopes on Valentine’s Day! It has been such a fun thing to do with my family. But as the kids got bigger and my sister moved in we had way too much stuff in our envelopes we went to a shoe holder. I will post about that maybe tomorrow.
How to make the envelopes:
Materials…
~Two felt rectangles the same size. I used white but you can use any color.
~Hole puncher
~Ribbon
~Red dimensional fabric paint
~Sticker heart or felt heart
How to make it:
~Take the 2 felt pieces and line them up. One long side will be the opening, the other sides you will punch holes about ½ inch apart.
~Take the ribbon and tie it to the first hole at the top of your envelope. (I always cut more ribbon than needed so I can weave it through and not run out.) Weave the ribbon through the holes. I loop mine around the holes. This will allow the ribbon to hold the 2 felt pieces together and create the envelope.
~After the envelope is together, tie off the last end and cut any extra off. Cut another 2 pieces of ribbon. Make sure they are long enough that when you tie them together they will fit around your chair. These 2 pieces will be tied to each of the top holes.
~Take your fabric paint and draw down from each top corner to make a triangle. This will make it look like an envelope.
~Add a heart to the middle. If using a felt heart you will need to glue it down.
~Lastly, add your child’s name using the fabric paint.
After the paint has completely dried, tie around the back of your chair. Enjoy the fun of giving each other valentines.
