Wow my daughter informed me that a mall I grew up going to, closed its doors forever October 31, 2022. This is such a crazy thing for me. The mall was built in 1991. It was the place to be as a teen. We had “the cool” stores, or at least I thought they were cool. We had Claires, Old Navy, Spencer Gifts, and Hot Topic!

I don’t remember going much when it first opened because I was just 11 years old. But I have fond memories as a teenager, I would go into the game room and would play Tekken or Mortal Kombat and check out all the cute guys in there.

My favorite memory as a teen though was running into Chris when we were 19. He was shopping with his parents for Christmas and I was going to a movie with my friends. We really did almost run into each other because we were coming around a corner. We said hey and then he said “come with me I gotta meet my parents.” Yeah I ditched my friends for a bit to be with him. Long story short…we started dating soon after that. Our first date was actually at the mall.

My other favorite memory is joining a playgroup after Makayla was born and taking her to the play area. Oh the days when germs were not such a big deal. I believe all of my kids at one point got to go to the mall play area.

So while I look back it is sad to see this place go, but it was already slowly shutting down. The best stores moved out long ago. I guess I never thought about seeing the end of an era with this mall because it was really the place to be when it opened.
