August, already?! I saw a post recently that had #selfcare suggestions for August (see photo). All of these suggestions are good and it got me thinking about what self care in August specifically means for me. The biggest thing that kept coming to my mind was *avoiding burnout*

Summer. Kids out of school, longer daylight hours, filling our days with activities… it can be stressful! We had a busy June and July. Lincoln started gymnastics, he attended several summer camps, we had playdates with friends, and we spent lots of time at playgrounds and splash pads. We saw friends and family, we spent tons of time in the sun and sprinklers and… we definitely got burnt out! There were a few days in this Utah heat where I’m pretty sure we got a little dehydrated too because of over scheduling/ poor planning on my part 😅 I personally wanted to embrace summer, the heat, the long days, and we did. We’ve both loved it and made so many memories. But eventually I noticed I was doing too much and I really started to feel it. Towards the end of July, some days I had to stay home and be completely antisocial to make up for all the busy days we had. I just needed a reminder to listen to my mind & body and this is your reminder to do the same ☺️ I’m actually sad to see summer come to an end… (I’m usually give me all the fall things! 🍂☕🎃)

So cheers🥂 to enjoying all the summer things while we can and while we’re soaking up the last weeks of summer sunshine☀️💦 remembering that it’s absolutely OK to say no to playdates, stay inside and avoid the heat, and cancel plans if it will help avoid burnout. Set boundaries, enjoy downtime, have some fun in the sun, and validate all those feelings! 💕
